Meet Amie—Stylist, Educator & Mad Hatter

We are blessed with some serious talent on our Tangerine Salon and Spa team, and Amie is one of them. She wears many hats around here—she’s our in-salon Education Coordinator, our New Talent Educator, an Aveda-certified Color Educator, oh, and she’s also a full-time Stylist. She somehow manages to do all of this (and more) while still finding time to connect with each guest on a personal level and give back to her community. Thus enters her nickname: the Mad Hatter.

We picked Amie’s brain to learn a little more about what lights her up (and how she manages to do it all). Read on to learn more!

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU?

I love people—I love living life with them and knowing their stories. I love that a good hairstyle can make someone’s day. For a lot of my guests, the 45 minutes they sit down with me are the only time they will sit for the whole day. I like to help them to be still, relax and enjoy our time together.

WHAT ARE YOUR GO-TO AVEDA PRODUCTS?

Smooth Infusion Nourishing Creme and Shampure Dry Shampoo save my life most mornings.

HOW DO YOU ALIGN WITH TANGERINE’S MOTTO “KNOW YOURSELF, GROW YOURSELF, DRAW OTHERS UP”?

I like to grow continually in all areas of my life—whether it’s a technical class, a long run or a glass of wine with a girlfriend. I am a big believer in giving back. We are blessed to bless others. Staying involved in the community and giving back to those around me is essential.

WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALTY?

Blondes. I love blondes!

WHAT’S BEEN THE BIGGEST SURPRISE ABOUT BEING A STYLIST?

So many people just want someone to listen, and that emotional touch is just as important as physical. I have laughed, cried, mourned, and celebrated with my guests. Their hair is one piece of helping them feel great, but getting the opportunity to be a part of someone’s life has been such a gift.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE SEARCHING FOR HIS OR HER NEXT STYLIST?

Always ask what they do for continued education—a salon with continued education has a higher level of talent, hands down. Oh, and bring pictures to your consultation!
